1. Key Timeline & Rules
Within 21 Days: Registering a birth within 21 days of the event is absolutely free of charge.
After 21 Days (Delayed Registration): If missed, you can still apply, but it requires a late fee and additional police/magistrate verification or an affidavit depending on the delay.

The documents vary slightly depending on whether the child was born in a hospital or at home:
If born in a Hospital/Nursing Home:
Discharge Certificate/Slip provided by the hospital.
Identity Proof of both parents (Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, or PAN Card).
If born at Home:

3. Step-by-Step Process: Where to Go?
Online Process (In states like West Bengal - Janma-Mrityu Tathya Portal):
Visit the official state birth registration portal (e.g., janmamrityutathya.wb.gov.in for WB).
Click on the 'Citizen Services' tab and select 'Birth Registration'.
Enter your mobile number and verify it with the OTP.
Fill out the child’s details, place of birth, and parents' information carefully.
Upload scanned copies of the Hospital Discharge Slip and Parents' ID proofs.

১. গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সময়সীমা ও নিয়ম
২১ দিনের মধ্যে: শিশুর জন্মের ২১ দিনের মধ্যে নাম নথিভুক্ত করা সম্পূর্ণ বিনামূল্যে (Free) করা যায়।
২১ দিন পর (Delayed Registration): ২১ দিন পার হয়ে গেলে নির্দিষ্ট লেট ফি (Late Fee) এবং ক্ষেত্রবিশেষে হলফনামা (Affidavit) বা ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট পারমিশনের প্রয়োজন হয়।

শিশু হাসপাতালে জন্মেছে নাকি বাড়িতে, তার ওপর ভিত্তি করে ডকুমেন্ট কিছুটা আলাদা হয়:
হাসপাতাল বা নার্সিং হোমে জন্ম হলে:
হাসপাতাল থেকে দেওয়া ডিসচার্জ সার্টিফিকেট বা স্লিপ (Discharge Slip)।
বাবা ও মায়ের পরিচয়পত্র (আধার কার্ড, ভোটার কার্ড বা প্যান কার্ড)।
বাড়িতে জন্ম হলে:
নির্দিষ্ট বয়ানে একটি আবেদনপত্র/ঘোষণাপত্র।
যে ঠিকানায় জন্ম হয়েছে তার প্রমাণপত্র (যেমন- বাড়ির বিদ্যুৎ বিল বা আধার কার্ড)।
স্থানীয় পঞ্চায়েত প্রধান বা কাউন্সিলরের প্রত্যয়নপত্র।
পুরনো বা দেরিতে হওয়া জন্ম সার্টিফিকেটের জন্য:

অনলাইন পদ্ধতি (পশ্চিমবঙ্গের জন্য - জন্ম-মৃত্যু তথ্য পোর্টাল):
প্রথমে অফিসিয়াল ওয়েবসাইট janmamrityutathya.wb.gov.in-এ যান।
'Citizen Services' ট্যাবে ক্লিক করে 'Birth' অপশন থেকে 'Apply for New Registration' সিলেক্ট করুন।
আপনার মোবাইল নম্বর দিয়ে OTP ভেরিফাই করুন।
ফর্মটিতে শিশুর নাম, জন্মের স্থান, এবং বাবা-মায়ের সমস্ত তথ্য নির্ভুলভাবে পূরণ করুন।
